Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF)



The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) formerly known as PTLLS, has been designed to introduce teaching for individuals who aspire or currently work in adult education. This includes FE colleges, training providers, workplace training departments and/or Local Authorities. It is a nationally recognised qualification and is also often the preference for employers to source as an accredited train the trainer qualification.
We offer a choice of flexible delivery methods, for individuals or groups:
Distance Learning (self-study)
- Enrol immediately, any day of the year (Ideal for individual students)
- Self-study at your own pace
- Unlimited one to one support from a tutor (phone, email and live online sessions)
- Complete 100% remotely with no attendance in person
Classroom (face to face)
- Delivered over 3-4 days, with homework
- Flexible delivery options including evenings and weekends, or days can be split (one per week etc.)
- Option to blend with remote learning to reduce classroom time to as little as 1 day
- Recommended group size between 6-12 people, ideal for in-house courses
Live Online Sessions
- Attend live scheduled online lessons delivered by a tutor
- Complete assignments remotely with one to one tutor support where required

This qualification is assessed by a portfolio of evidence which must cover all assessment criteria of the units selected. Assessment methods include:
- 3 x written assignments.
- A micro-teach session
- Self-evaluation
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) has been designed to introduce teaching for individuals who would like to work or currently work within FE Colleges, Independent Training Providers and/or Local Authorities. It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, such as:
- Individuals not currently teaching or training – achievement of the qualification does not require practice other than microteaching.
- Individuals currently teaching and training, including those new to the profession – although the qualification does not require practice, opportunities may be made available to observe and provide feedback on a trainee teacher’s practice; and
- Individuals currently working as assessors, who wish to achieve a qualification that introduces teaching.
Learners must be aged 19+ years to be enrolled onto this course. You do not need to be in a current teaching or training role to complete this qualification.
Please note: course materials are provided in English and the practical assessment must be completed in English.
A certificate is provided upon successful completion, following internal and external quality assurance. We also issue digital badges upon completion.

Yes, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training is a regulated qualification, meaning it is recognised across the UK. A Level 3 Award is equivalent to an A Level on the regulated qualifications framework (RQF).
Your accredited certificate will be issued by Focus Awards, an Ofqual regulated awarding organisation.
For distance learning courses, there are no specific deadlines for assignments. You can work at your own pace. We do ask that you complete the course within 12 months.
There are three written assignments to complete. The qualification is also assessed by a 15 minute micro-teach session and a self-evaluation report.
