Who is this qualification for?
The OPITO Assessor Vocational Qualification is designed for individuals who have been appointed, or are preparing to be appointed, to an Assessor role.
It is particularly suitable for those responsible for assessing the knowledge, skills and competence of individuals within the oil and gas, energy and other operational industries.
What will you learn?
The qualification combines underpinning knowledge of vocational assessment with the practical workplace evidence required to demonstrate competence as an assessor.
You will develop your understanding of the assessment process before applying your knowledge in the workplace. This includes planning assessments, assessing candidate performance, making reliable assessment decisions, providing constructive feedback and maintaining appropriate assessment records.
By completing the qualification, you will demonstrate both the knowledge and practical competence required to carry out workplace assessments effectively and consistently.
Qualification structure
The qualification consists of two mandatory units, carries 12 SCQF credit points and has a total of 120 Guided Learning Hours.
Flexible online learning
The qualification is completed 100% online, allowing you to work through the required knowledge and workplace evidence at a pace that fits around your work and other commitments.
Standard course enrolment includes 12 months of system access and tutor support. Extensions are available where additional time is required, allowing a maximum completion period of 18 months.
Units
The OPITO Assessor Vocational Qualification consists of two mandatory units, both of which must be successfully completed:
OGOS-SQ01 – OPITO Assessor
Develop the underpinning knowledge and skills required to understand and carry out effective vocational assessment.
OGOS-SQ02 – OPITO Assessor Workplace Evidence
Demonstrate practical assessor competence through assessment activities and evidence gathered within the workplace.
Successful completion of both units is required to achieve the full qualification.

Assessments
Learners must demonstrate both the underpinning knowledge and practical workplace competence required of an Assessor.
Workplace evidence will be used to demonstrate the learner’s ability to carry out assessment activities and make appropriate assessment decisions.
Learners must have access to a minimum of two candidates within their workplace to assess.
Assessment activities must be undertaken in the workplace in accordance with operational requirements, organisational procedures and safe working practices.
Your assessor will provide guidance throughout the qualification and review the evidence submitted against the relevant OPITO requirements.

This qualification is suitable for individuals who have been appointed, or are preparing to be appointed, to an Assessor role.
It is particularly suited to individuals responsible for assessing the skills, knowledge and competence of personnel within the oil and gas, energy and other operational workplace environments.
The qualification provides a recognised route for individuals who need to demonstrate their competence as a workplace Assessor against OPITO requirements.
Pre-requisites
To enrol for this qualification, candidates must:
- Be aged 16 or over
- Have access to a minimum of two candidates within their workplace to assess
- Have suitable opportunities to plan and carry out assessment activities in the workplace
- Have access to relevant organisational procedures, documentation and safe working practices
- Have sufficient English language skills to understand the course content and complete all required assessment evidence in English
As workplace assessment is a mandatory component of the qualification, candidates should ensure they can meet these requirements before enrolling.
Certificate
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a globally recognised OPITO qualification at SCQF Level 8.
The certificate does not expire.
