The Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (RQF) is intended for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment without any requirement to practice as assessors. This qualification would be chosen if the learner only requires the knowledge of assessing but is not in a position to assess live learners. This unit when completed can be used towards other assessing qualifications in the future.
Learners will achieve 6 credits across 1 unit:
- Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
Typically, distance learning students complete this course within a few weeks, although we do allow up to 12 months to complete the qualification.
Extension options are available if required.
This course is usually completed by self-study distance learning. Students are assigned a dedicated tutor who will offer a welcome call and be available to support throughout the qualification.
For groups of 4 or more people, we can also offer an online tutor-led workshop delivered via Microsoft Teams, with a duration of either one day or two half days. This covers content associated with the theory unit of the course.
To show sufficient understanding of all learning objectives, learners are assessed through a written assignment. (Approx. 3500 words, broken down into smaller questions).
Learners must be aged 19+ years to be enrolled onto this course. If enrolling to this course as an individual, you must be working or have access to a training or teaching environment as you are required to carry out assessment in a live environment as part of the qualification.
Please note: course materials are provided in English and the practical assessment must be completed in English.
This qualification is designed to provide the knowledge and understanding of assessment to those who need it, but have no need to actively practice as an assessor, or have no access to live learners to assess.
A certificate is provided upon successful completion, following internal and external quality assurance.
Online learning resources and hard-copy welcome pack by post.
In addition to our online resources, learners receive a printed workbook by post. This provides useful additional reading to assist with the theory unit.
Learners can progress to the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA), or the Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (RQF).
