Regulated Qualification | Various Study Options

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF), formerly PTLLS, has been designed to introduce teaching for individuals who aspire to or currently work in adult education. This includes FE colleges, training providers, workplace training departments, and/or Local Authorities.

It is a nationally recognised qualification and is often the preference as a train-the-trainer qualification. This qualification includes written assignments and a practical micro-teach session, which can be completed remotely.

Units

Learners will achieve 12 credits across 3 units:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
  • Understanding assessment in education and training or Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

Assessment

This qualification is assessed by a portfolio of evidence that covers all assessment criteria for the units selected. Assessment methods include:

  • 3 x written assignments
  • Delivery of a micro-teach session and creation of a lesson plan
  • Self-evaluation

Suitability

Who should do this course?

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) has been designed to introduce teaching for individuals who would like to work or currently work within FE Colleges, Independent Training Providers and/or Local Authorities.

It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, such as:

  • Individuals not currently teaching or training – achieving the qualification does not require practice other than microteaching.
  • Individuals currently teaching and training, including those new to the profession – although the qualification does not require practice, opportunities may be made available to observe and provide feedback on a trainee teacher’s practice; and
  • Assessors looking to supplement their existing qualification.

Pre-requisites

Learners must be 19+ to enrol in this qualification. No previous experience or placements are necessary.

Certificate

Upon successful completion, learners will receive an externally accredited certificate from Focus Awards, a nationally recognised and Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation.
